1940s Madison Tea Dress - Chartreuse
Presenting our newest 1940s tea dress - Madison. An artisan pattern cutting project that's required extra effort to perfect. Based on a french 1940s design plate, this dress has a plethora of divine detailing that treasure seekers will swoon over.
Spring is the start of the tea dress season, so we wanted to explore a few new gorgeous 1940s styles to add to our catalogue to give Foxy fans some more options. The Madison dress, however, takes the 1940s tea dress to a whole new level and each one takes our skilled seamstresses several hours to make.
Madison has a high neckline similar to our 40s Girl Friday tea dress but we've cut the bodice into 3 sections to create flattering shaping around the bust. The waist skims but there is no waist seam - the clever pattern moves into an oval shape down centre front where the skirt fullness is created from unusual horizontal gathers around it. Panels are a mix of bias and straight.
Sleeves are slightly longer than our other tea dress styles and sit just on or below the elbow. Gathered into the armhole, there is a little shoulder pad to create the classic strong shoulder of the 1940s silhouette. The end of the sleeve has beautiful detailing that echoes the front of the dress - a rounded panel with the fullness gathered into it.
Lastly - the dress has a side zip and back keyhole with button fastening. This dress is not lined due to the bias nature of the garment - you may wish to wear a slip underneath during cooler months
Key Features Include:-
- high neckline
- clever pannelling with gathers under bust
- mid length sleeves with shoulder pad
- bias cut areas
- side zip
Made with love in Yorkshire, England
Fabric: 100% 'eco-vero' rayon/viscose marocain crepe from sustainable source, feels very 'vintage' and as such gathers beautifully into yokes and under bust - is similar to the fabrics worn at this time.
Washing instructions: dry clean only (we recommend dry cleaning due to the bias cut panels in the skirt which can become mis-shapen after washing and in particular line drying)
Length natural waist to hem: approx 27inches
